How Your Environment Programmes Your Subconscious

Your environment constantly programs your subconscious through daily habits, media, and surroundings. Change your inputs incrementally to shape your life and mindset.

Your environment is programming your subconscious every single day.

You never agreed to it. It’s happening anyway.

I want you to think about the last thing you read before you went to sleep last night.

The last conversation you had before you sat down to work this morning. The news you scrolled through over breakfast. The people you spend the most hours with every week. The background noise of your daily life that you have stopped noticing because it has always been there.

All of it is being recorded.

Not consciously. Not deliberately. But consistently. And consistency is the only thing the subconscious responds to.

Psychologist Albert Bandura spent decades studying what he called social learning - the process by which human beings absorb beliefs, behaviours, and standards from the environment around them without being explicitly taught.

His research found that we do not just learn from direct experience. We learn from observation, from exposure, from the subtle and constant signals our environment sends us about what is normal, what is possible, and what we are worth.

Your subconscious is not waiting for you to sit down and consciously decide what to believe.

It’s taking notes all day long.

The friend who constantly talks about how hard life is. The news cycle that leads with everything going wrong. Your social media feed is full of people living lives that make yours feel small by comparison. The office environment that runs on anxiety and urgency.

None of these feel dramatic at the moment. They are just the background.
But the background is where the subconscious lives.

I changed my results before I changed my practices. I changed my environment.

Not dramatically. Incrementally. One input at a time.

What I read in the morning. Who I spent time with. What I allowed to play in the background of my days.

The subconscious does not know the difference between what you chose and what you were simply exposed to.

It just absorbs what is most consistent.

What is one thing in your environment that you know is shaping you in a direction you did not choose?
